We pride ourselves on transparency. My Tech Group can offer a complete service offering in many areas, but we do also engage with high-quality third-party providers for some aspects (such as domain name registration) where we are unable to provide these services directly. In these cases, we still provide you with a comprehensive service, acting as your single point of contact for all requests, ensuring that you experience a consistent and high-quality experience.
There may be some projects that are outside of our areas of expertise. In these cases, we will make you aware of this and provide advice and recommendations for other organisations you can engage with – we will never take your money for something we can’t achieve.
We understand that starting a website isn’t easy, and there are lots of components required to get going. As such, we’ve included a list of the most common terms below, with user-friendly definitions. Simply click on the questions below to view the answers.
There are lots of components that come together to make a functioning website. My Tech Group offers a complete service offering, meaning we can cover all aspects of your website, but we also want to explain each component below to allow you to make an informed decision on what you are purchasing and whether to do so via My Tech Group, or via another company.
The website design is the thing that you and your customers see when they visit your site. It is built to your specification and design preferences.
We offer a website design service through My Media.
The domain name is the address that people will type in to visit your website (e.g. mytech.org.uk). This name is unique to you. There are two parts to a domain name – the domain (e.g. mytech) and the TLD (e.g. org.uk/.co.uk/.com etc.). If you purchase a .co.uk domain (for example), you do not also own the .com domain – if you wish to own multiple TLDs, you have to purchase them separately. Let us know if you wish to have more than one domain.
The costs of domain names are not set by My Tech Group and are instead defined by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Domain names can be purchased through ICANN authorised registrars (such as Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy etc.) for the ICANN fee, plus a service charge from the registrar.
We offer a domain name registration and management service via My Web, powered by Cloudflare.
While you can choose to purchase your domain directly with Cloudflare or any other domain registrar, you would then need to manage the domain yourself (setting things like nameservers, DNS records etc.). My Web’s offering covers all of the technical set up and ongoing management for you.
Once your website has been designed, it is effectively a collection of files containing code – these files need to be put somewhere so that they can be shown to people when they visit your website. These files need to live on a web hosting server, which is where the term Website Hosting comes from.
There are thousands of website hosting providers on the market (such as Hostinger, GoDaddy, IONOS etc.), all offering varying hosting plans depending on your website’s needs (the more visitors, or more complex the site, the more powerful the server needs to be).
We offer a Website Hosting and management service via My Web with various plans available to suit your needs.
While you can choose to purchase your hosting with any provider, you would then need to manage the hosting yourself (performing tasks like file uploads, database provisioning and management etc). My Web’s offering covers all of the technical set up and ongoing management for you.
Most web hosts include some form of protection and security in their hosting via a firewall. In most cases, this will be enough to protect you. However, there may be instances where you need or want more protection from attackers or a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. To achieve this, you would need an additional Web Application Firewall (WAF) to protect your web hosting server.
Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are another type of technology that can be implemented on your site to speed up the loading of the site. These CDNs work by placing copies of your website on servers all around the world, so that when someone visits your website, it is loaded from the server closest to them.
DDoS, WAF and CDNs are included free of charge on all My Web hosting plans.

Our datacentre is hosted in Manchester, United Kingdom.
This datacentre is managed by Hostinger, as that is who we purchase our web servers from.
We have purchased high-performance cloud hosting plans from Hostinger UK, which provides us with dedicated servers with the following specifications, per server:
Whenever we take on a new My Web customer, we host their site(s) on one of our servers, providing them with access to these high-power resources.
A fair-usage principle applies to this offering, meaning that all clients can utilise these resources freely, rather than being restricted to only a portion of them. This ensures that your website can run smoothly and also cope with spikes in demand, unlike traditional low-cost web hosts who significantly limit your available resources, which can cause website performance issues and downtime.
If our automated monitoring detects that a specific client's site(s) are using more resources than are expected, we look to move this client onto their own dedicated server as to avoid any performance impact for other clients.
Cloudflare is our preferred registrar due to their near-cost pricing for domain registration and renewal, and tight integration with the Cloudflare CDN and WAF.
If a client wishes to use or purchase a domain that Cloudflare cannot support (Not all TLDs are currently available via Cloudflare), we will revert to our secondary registrar, Namecheap.
Namecheap provide a good domain management experience, and allows for DNS, CDN and WAF to still be handled by Cloudflare, but do generally charge a small premium for their domain registration service.

As of 04/10/2023, the cost of our Hostinger plan is £517.82 (incl. VAT). We do host all of our own websites on this plan, which would cost us approximately £80 if we were to host separately, which means that we need to make at least £437.82 per year, allowing us to cover our costs, before we can offer any price reductions to our customers.
Upon the expiry of this current contract in 2027, our renewal with Hostinger is expected to be around £750.00. We do not expect that we will need to pass this price increase onto our customers, as we forecast that our customer base will have increased by a sufficient amount by 2027 to cover these costs.
Unless our Hostinger plan increases in price, your hosting plans will not increase in price at all, not even by APR/RPI. This is part of My Tech Group's commitment to high-quality, low-cost IT services. Unfortunately, upon renewal in November 2022, our Hostinger plan did increase in cost quite significantly, which meant that customers did see a small price increase upon their 2022/23 renewals.
However, if you take out a web hosting plan with My Web, your monthly/annual price may decrease as time goes on. Yes, you read that right - decrease*.

We offer two types of web services here at My Tech Group. For more information on each, please click on the headings below.
By choosing a combined service offering from My Media and My Web for your new or existing website, you can take advantage of reduced pricing, a single point of contact for all support or change requests and peace of mind, knowing that your entire website is monitored and managed by us, meaning you can focus on what really matters to you and your business, letting us handle the technical aspects.
The combined service offering is our recommended approach and guarantees a cheaper overall cost compared to purchasing separate like-for-like services (we even price match!).
Choose to select some My Media and My Web Services, but not the combined service offering.
We will still ensure you have the best quality service possible for all areas we cover, but we can’t guarantee that same level of service from the other providers you select outside of My Tech Group.
We also might not be able to include all of our services for free (such as email hosting), as we will need to spend time working with your other service providers to get things set up, and they may not offer these services or be willing to include them for free like we do.
My CMS (our Content Management System, based on the industry standard WordPress platform) is what is used to manage your website once it’s live. My CMS is designed to be user friendly and extremely easy to get to grips with, allowing you to easily update content on your website.
As we appreciate that all customers have varying technical skills or preferences regarding how they wish to manage their websites, we have various operating modes for My CMS, as detailed below. You can switch between My CMS Modes at any time for free, but only in a downward direction—you cannot move back from Unmanaged Mode to Semi-Managed or Fully Managed Mode without a paid website audit to identify any issues or required changes.

In fully managed mode, you don’t have any access to My CMS. Instead, we will upload all new content for you and make any changes that you require as well as updating and monitoring My CMS and its plugins.
This mode provides you with complete peace of mind, knowing that your site will not be accidentally altered or broken by user error. Fully Managed Mode is included for free with all My Media websites that are hosted on My Web Hosting packages. Unfortunately, we cannot offer Fully Managed Mode on websites hosted outside of My Web as we cannot guarantee that another provider’s servers will provide you with the same stability, reliability and feature set that My Web’s servers do.
All websites start in Fully Managed Mode by default. You can request to switch to another mode at any time by emailing support@mytech.org.uk.

In Semi-Managed Mode, you have limited access to My CMS. This access will allow you to upload new content (such as images to a portfolio), but will not allow you to make changes to the structure, design or main content of the site.
This mode strikes a balance between the stability and peace of mind of Fully Managed Mode but allows you access to the site to quickly make minor changes. We can offer Semi-Managed Mode on My Media websites hosted either by My Web or another provider, but you must understand that we may be limited in what we can support you with as we cannot guarantee that another provider’s servers will provide you with the same stability, reliability and feature set that My Web’s servers do.
We offer a website design service through My Media.
In unmanaged mode, following the completion of your website, we transfer all administrative rights and responsibilities to you, allowing you to have complete control over your website.
This mode is designed for experienced users who are comfortable managing websites. In this mode, all changes to your website (minor or major) can be completed by you – if you choose to request that we make these changes for you, we would provide a quote prior to work commencing.

DNS stands for Domain Name Service. You can think of DNS like the internet’s address book.
When someone sends an email to you (like you@yourbusiness.co.uk), DNS helps direct that message to the right place – kind of like a postal service, but for email.
It tells the internet:
Where your emails should be delivered
Which services are allowed to send emails on your behalf
How to help keep your email safe and out of spam folders
When you set up email hosting with us, we’ll either ask you to update your DNS records (don’t worry – we guide you through it), or if we already manage your domain, we will make these changes for you.
These settings are what let the world know:
“Here’s where emails for your business should go” (using something called an MX record)
“Only these services are allowed to send emails from your domain” (using things like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC)
You don’t need to remember what all those names mean – just know that DNS settings help your email work properly, look trustworthy, and stay secure.

My Mail Free is our lowest tier of email hosting, and is included free to all customers who have a My Web Hosting plan.
We are able to provide this service for free as part of our partnership with Hostinger.
This plan comes with the basic features required for email hosting, but does enforce a number of restrictions on its usage. As such, we only recommend My Mail Free for extremely low-traffic use, or as a stopgap solution.

This plan comes with the basic features required for email hosting, doesn't enforce any restrictions on its usage, but does still limit email volume. As such, we only recommend My Mail Lite for low to moderate traffic use.

For organisations that require even more features and flexibility than My Mail Pro, we are able to offer My 365, our managed Microsoft 365 service.

My Workspace is great for users who are familiar with Microsoft's suite of apps and tools for individuals, and wish to leverage this for their organisation.

My Mail Free is included free to all customers who have a My Web Hosting plan.
We provide a support and management service for My Mail Free as part of your My Web Hosting plan.
My Mail Lite and Pro are billed per mailbox, on an annual basis.
We determine our pricing based on the cost price of these services from Hostinger and Zoho, respectively. To allow us to provide you with a fully managed service with unlimited support and requests, we apply a small markup to the cost price that we are charged by the provider.
When you sign up for My Mail Lite or My Mail Pro, we purchase the required number of licenses from Hostinger or Zoho on an annual basis, to allow us to obtain the best price.
Due to our longstanding partnership with Zoho, the cost price we are charged is less than what they display on their website, meaning that the total price we charge for the managed and supported service should still be less than their current pricing for a self-managed, unsupported plan.
If you choose to cancel your service partway through your contract, we cannot offer pro-rata refunds. This is because we will have already paid Hostinger or Zoho for your licenses for the remainder of the annual billing period.
Unlike our My Mail offerings, due to the higher cost of Microsoft 365, you will be billed directly by Microsoft for all of your licenses. This means that you will need to link a payment card to Microsoft's systems, and enter into a contract directly with them.
Our My 365 service covers the unlimited management and support for your Microsoft 365 tenancy, and is charged at a cost of approximately £3/user/month and £1.50/shared mailbox/month. Volume discounts are available for larger organisations. This fee is charged monthly and can be cancelled at any time.
As part of this license cost, you are entitled to unlimited change requests and email-based support for your Microsoft 365 tenant. We will also monitor your tenant on your behalf and apply proactive maintenance, without you needing to lift a finger.
We monitor your tenancy via our My Unify API. This allows us to monitor your tenancy, be automatically alerted to issues and apply automations.
We manage your tenancy via a Global Administrator account within your tenancy. You will not be charged by Microsoft or by us for this account.
My 365 is a fully managed service, meaning that we are the sole managers of your tenant. If you wish to grant administrator roles or permissions to users within your organisation or third parties, this can be granted, but there may be a cost associated, in addition to a waiver form.
Unlike our My Mail offerings, due to the higher cost of Google Workspace, you will be billed directly by Google for all of your licenses. This means that you will need to link a payment card to Google's systems, and enter into a contract directly with them.
Our My Workspace service covers the unlimited management and support for your Google Workspace tenancy, and is charged at a cost of approximately £3/user/month and £1.50/group/month. We do not charge anything for Teams, SharePoint sites etc. Volume discounts are available for larger organisations. This fee is charged monthly and can be cancelled at any time.
As part of this license cost, you are entitled to unlimited change requests and email-based support for your Google Workspace tenant. We will also monitor your tenant on your behalf and apply proactive maintenance, without you needing to lift a finger.

My Workspace is a fully managed service, meaning that we are the sole managers of your tenant. If you wish to grant administrator roles or permissions to users within your organisation or third parties, this can be granted, but there may be a cost associated, in addition to a waiver form.

We don’t believe in overcharging for services, so we provide all services at as close to cost as possible.
We pride ourselves on providing high-quality services that are affordable for individuals and small businesses. We may not, however, be the absolute cheapest provider for all services.
For example, you will find cheaper web hosting plans than My Web offers. However, you will not get the same level of service with other providers – they will sell you a web hosting plan, but you will need to know how to manage this yourself. If that works for you, great! But we know that for most people, that’s not something they know how to do, or want to do – that’s where My Tech Group comes in.
To help you get the most from My Tech Group, we operate a number of programmes. Information on each programme is available below.
If you take out a recurring service with any My Tech Group brand or product, your monthly/annual price may decrease as time goes on. Yes, you read that right - decrease*.
How is this possible? For each service we offer, we obviously need to break even with our costs for that specific service. For example, if the cost to operate Service A is £100 per year, we need to be bringing in at least £100 for this service from our clients.
As soon as we do this, with each new client that chooses us for that service, we divide a percentage of the profits (any amount above the cost price, so £100 in the example above) and then share this amongst our clients as a discount to future renewals (monthly) or provide partial refunds (annual plans)!
This model is our way of thanking our customers for being My Tech Group customers and trusting us with your business. It also means that it is in everyone's interests to help us grow and bring more clients into the My Tech Group community.
*Please note that if My Tech Group loses a client, and therefore revenue drops back below cost-price, customers' plans will increase in price back to their original agreed price. This means that if your plan was previously £5, but dropped down to £4.50, it would revert to £5 - but never a penny higher.
We operate a referral programme which allows you to save even more money on your renewals, whilst also allowing My Tech Group to grow its customer base.

*Please note that the discount value will vary depending on the service(s) that are taken out by your referee. On average, this equates to approximately 10% of their first purchase.
